Caroline caught his gaze from across the dance floor. She was confused and she had the right to be. He had never expressed anything other than friendship towards her. And now, when she was finally happy, when she finally got herself together, he had to just march in and complicate everything.
He hated himself then for all those moments that they have had, all the moments that could have been, and all the moments that are now lost because he had been too blind to see them. Because he was dancing with the wrong girl and he’s selfish for wanting somebody else.
He’s not the virtuous Stefan everybody thinks him to be. But the only one that knows, that truly knows, is her. After all, they don’t pretend with one another. So he’s going to see this through. Even if it ends in heartbreak.
